TFS Students Make History – and a Little Mischief – with Upcoming Production of A Midsummer Night’s…Romp!

The stage is brand new. The play is 400 years old. Cue the romp!
Toronto Film School’s Acting for Film, TV and the Theatre students will take to the stage June 17-20 for their upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s…Romp! – a fresh, 90-minute take on Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, adapted and directed by Jonathan Whittaker.
The production runs June 17-20 for five performances only at the school’s new downtown campus at 120 Bloor St. E. It also marks a historic first: A Midsummer Night’s…Romp! will mark the inaugural production in the TFS Studio Theatre, brought to life by a cast of 19 students armed with chaos, comedy and more than a little romantic mayhem.
In his director’s note, Whittaker frames A Midsummer Night’s…Romp! around a question that feels urgently relevant: What’s love got to do with it? His answer, drawn straight from Shakespeare’s text, is: everything.
“In a world where it feels at times it is devoid of that essential emotion, it is more important than ever to realize that Love is what holds us all together,” he said.
“The passions, the trials and tribulations can be many. The cost at times may seem high. But when we truly love, the result can be euphoric, life changing. Our bond with one another becomes stronger. Our world together becomes stronger – with love.”
