Led by working filmmakers and credited actors, each Academy introduces you to the creative, technical, and professional skills you need to start pursuing a career in the industry.
Designed for both high school and adult learners, these week-long experiences are built around hands-on creation. You’ll collaborate with peers, use industry-grade equipment, and leave with a finished product that can serve as your first portfolio piece and a stepping stone toward further training or application to Toronto Film School.

Academies for Teens
Applicants must be entering Grade 11 or 12 and be 17 or younger at the academy’s end.
Academies for Adults
Applicant must be older than 18 years of age.
Maximum 24 students
Each academy will have a maximum of 24 students.

Filmmaking Academy
As a Filmmaking Academy student, you’ll take part in a short-film production, rotating through crew roles as you write, plan, shoot, and edit an original project.

What are Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
Toronto Film School Summer Academies are immersive, week-long introductions to acting and filmmaking, designed for both teens and adults curious about creative careers. Led by working filmmakers and credited actors, participants collaborate in small groups to develop, perform, and produce real creative work—experiencing the same hands-on, industry-driven approach used in Toronto Film School’s full-time diploma programs while building first portfolio pieces that can also support a future application.
Where are Toronto Film School Summer Academies being held?
Toronto Film School Summer Academies will be held at our new downtown Toronto campus at 120 Bloor Street East, pending Ministry approval. Specific rooms and facilities will be confirmed closer to the start of each academy.
What are the specific dates & times for the Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
June 29 – July 3, 2026 (Teen Academies only)
• 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with Wednesday off (Canada Day)
• Friday runs 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
August 10 – 14, 2026 (Teen & Adult Academies)
• Teen Academies: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
• Adult Academies: 3:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
A mid session lunch break will be provided each day, and participants will be responsible for bringing or purchasing their own meals.
Who delivers the Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
The TFS Summer Academies are delivered by the TFS Faculty and Staff who teach in our diploma programs, all of whom are experienced industry professionals.
Why should I attend a Toronto Film School Summer Academy?
Toronto Film School Summer Academies are designed to help you explore whether a future in acting or filmmaking is right for you. These introductory, hands-on experiences give you real insight into the creative and professional side of the industry while helping you produce your first self-tape or short film, material you can use as a portfolio piece and as part of a future application to Toronto Film School’s diploma programs.
How much do the Toronto Film School Summer Academies cost?
The cost per academy is $650. Academy pricing is inclusive of insurance and a $100 non-refundable fee.
Can I be in a group with my friends?
Each academy will have a maximum of 24 students who will largely work together throughout the week. If two participants have enrolled in the same academy in the same week, they will be working/learning together.
Do I need creative arts experience to attend a Toronto Film School Summer Academy?
No prior experience is required. Toronto Film School Summer Academies are designed as accessible, introductory programs for anyone curious about acting or filmmaking—whether you’re just starting out or building on existing skills. You’ll learn through hands-on projects and guided instruction that reflects the same practical, industry-driven approach used in Toronto Film School’s full-time diploma programs.
Do participants get a credential for completing an academy?
Participants who complete an academy get a certificate of completion, which can be cited on a CV or resume.
Do I need to bring anything to the academy I’ve enrolled in?
Just bring the essentials—and your creative spark.
You’ll need a smartphone and wired earphones to record and review your work throughout the week.
Filmmaking Academy students should also bring work gloves, since you may be helping move or set up equipment on set.
Will the academies run next year?
Yes, we plan to offer Summer Academies next year as well.
Can parents, guardians, or guests attend any academy sessions?
Yes. On the Friday of each academy week, guests are invited to visit the campus to see what participants have been working on. Teen academies will host their showcases in the afternoon, while adult academies will present their work later in the evening, giving everyone a chance to celebrate and share what they’ve created.
Are lunches provided at the TFS Summer Academies?
Lunches aren’t provided, but there will be a daily lunch break. Participants are welcome to bring their own food or grab something nearby—there are plenty of great options around our downtown campus.
Is there transportation provided to the TFS Summer Academies?
There is no transportation provided to the Summer Academies, but the new downtown campus at 120 Bloor St E is easily accessible by public transit. The campus is just a short walk from major TTC subway lines at Bloor–Yonge Station (serving Lines 1 and 2) and nearby bus stops, making it convenient to reach by Toronto’s public transit system.

What is the Cancellation Policy?
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to academy@torontofilmschool.ca
Refunds are issued according to the following timeline:
Cancellations made more than 60 days before the Academy start date will receive a full refund minus a $100 processing fee. Cancellations made 15 to 60 days before the start date will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 15 days before the start date are not eligible for a refund.
Transfers:
Registrations may be transferred to another Academy session if requested at least 15 days before the original start date, subject to availability. A $25 transfer fee applies.
Emergency cancellations:
In the case of a medical emergency or other extenuating circumstances, please contact us. A partial refund or credit toward a future Academy session may be offered at our discretion.
Weather or unforeseen events:
If an Academy must be cancelled due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will attempt to reschedule the session. If rescheduling is not possible, a full refund will be issued.
Refund processing:
All approved refunds will be processed within 4–6 weeks and returned to the original payment method.
Toronto Film School reserves the right to cancel an Academy week due to insufficient enrolment. In this case, participants will be notified at least 60 days before the Academy start date and will receive a full refund.
