INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Interested in pursuing your passion for film, fashion or design in Canada? Study at Toronto Film School. TFS is a top ranked film school in Canada, it has a vibrant international community and welcomes students from around the globe.

English as a Second Language

We require a minimum level of English language proficiency from applicants before they can be considered for admissions into our Diploma programs.

For students who do not meet the English Language requirements, Toronto Film School offers an ESL Gateway program that helps transition students into any Toronto Film School Diploma program of their choice.

We also provide a list of other approved ESL programs that students may complete prior to being admitted at Toronto Film School.

ESL Gateway Program Entrance Requirements

  • A high school diploma from their home country.
  • The equivalent of 4.0 on the IELTS score.  Students without an IELTS score will be tested using the Oxford Online Placement Test.  Toronto Film School ESL Gateway Program covers ranges between 4.0 IELTS and 5.5 IELTS.

Placement

Based on the results of the Oxford Online Placement Test, students are tentatively placed in Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 of the ESL Gateway Program. Students are tested again upon arrival to Canada and may be placed up or down a level depending on the results of the in-person test.

Please note:

  • If you do not have an English test score or would like to improve your English at other ESL schools, please see a list of TFS approved language schools below, along with a standard list of recognized language proficiency tests and minimum scores.
  • If you have successfully studied for three years in an English speaking country, you do not need to submit ESL test results.
  • If you have studied in English for at least two years at a recognized college or have successfully completed one year of study at a recognized university or a one-year post graduate certificate at a recognized college, you do not need to submit ESL test results.
