MovieMaker Lists TFS as One of 2022’s Best Film Schools in U.S. & Canada

For the fourth consecutive year, MovieMaker magazine has named Toronto Film School to its list of the Best Film Schools in the U.S. and Canada.

The Los Angeles-based industry publication singled out Toronto Film School’s 18-month Writing for Film & Television program in its Outstanding Screenwriting Training category for 2022.

“Toronto is a thriving film center that is only getting hotter — it’s currently the No. 2 city on our list of the Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker,” the magazine reports in its ranking of the 18-month program, which is taught out of TFS’s 17,387 square-foot facility in downtown Toronto.

“Toronto Film School’s Writing for Film & TV program is having a big moment as well — it’s led by Michelle Daly, who managed the creative development and production of hit shows Schitt’s CreekKim’s ConvenienceBaroness von Sketch Show, Workin’ Moms, TallBoyz and This Hour Has 22 Minutes during her time as head of comedy at CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster.”

The MovieMaker rankings then went on to praise the design of TFS’s Writing for Film & Television program, which aims to replicate the process and environment of the film and television industry, as well as its faculty slate of industry-active writers.

“The school’s faculty includes industry veterans who offer not only the rules of the craft and tips on industry standards, but also real-world insights and credibility,” MovieMaker said of Writing for Film & Television program, which also took home the magazine’s Outstanding Screenwriting Training honours in 2020.

“Classes are designed to closely replicate professional writing rooms, and students also gain valuable experience in table reads and the art of showrunning. They also learn to pitch, write, produce and edit for all formats, and emerge from the program with finished scripts to show off their skills.”

In addition to its world-class Writing for Film & Television program, Toronto Film School’s other diploma offerings include Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre, Graphic Design & Interactive MediaVideo Game Design & AnimationVideo Game Design & Development, and Film Production – the latter of which earned MovieMaker’s Outstanding Film Production Training accolades last year in its 2021 listing of the Best Film Schools in North America.

MovieMaker also applauded Toronto Film School in 2019 for its All-Encompassing Production Training.
