The latest news from the Writing For Film and Television Diploma Program: Guest Blog By Adam Till

It’s been a busy summer for graduates of the Writing for Film and Television Diploma program at Toronto Film School.

Brad Vermunt and Malek Pacha, who both graduated in 2013, were promoted from Writing Assistants to Writers on the Temple Street series The Next Step. Their first episode is being written currently, and is expected to air early 2015.

On the heels of a successful set of meetings in LA, Anthony Feor, a 2014 graduatewas hired to write a commercial treatment for Garnier. The treatment was well received, and Anthony is already in negotiations for his next project.

After his successful stint as Story Editor on the feature thriller Deeper, Spencer Sinclair, who graduated in 2014, racked up another Story Editor credit on the horror feature Blackburn. Blackburn is currently in post production, expected to be released in early 2015.

With his short film Growing currently in post, Greg Jackson , a 2013 graduate, will be shooting a second short, Evil Smoothie, in November, once again with Big Shave Productions. Greg is also recently engaged to be married – our congratulations to Greg and all our grads on their tremendous success!

Writing for Film and Television instructors have also had a good summer. Jordan and Leah Walker’s feature thriller The Privileged was released in July, and enjoyed an extended run in select Toronto theatres. Jordan and Leah co-wrote the screenplay, with Jordan producing and Leah directing.

Matthew Miller, who teaches Feature Writing and Story Editing, completed production of his feature thriller Operation Avalanche, which he produced and story edited. The film is currently in post-production, and we are happy to have Matthew back teaching for the fall term.

Finally, eager to get in the game, we have some exciting news from some current Writing for Film and Television students.

Alex Stacey has been commissioned by Toronto Film School Film Production graduate Hassan Saeed to write the script for a corporate video. Alex is coming off the success of his PSA for Engage and Change, a charity which hands out winter survival kits to homeless people in Toronto.

Also, Dominic Licorish’s feature film Jewel Fools is now complete, and is an official selection of the Calgary International Film Festival. Dominic wrote the action/comedy, which was shot earlier this year in Alberta.

We’re off to a great start this year Writing for Film and Television, all the best for the coming term!
