Time Until Next Intake:

Guest Blog: Michael Ayoub and Hart Massey Welcome Acting Students to Winter Term

Happy New Years and welcome to the Winter Semester for the Acting for Film, Television and the Theatre Program at Toronto Film School.

We have 10 acting sections this term full of talent and elite instructors, whose passion for acting will help you forget about the cold and push you to dive into the work.

As a New Year’s resolution, we want to encourage you to put aside any barriers you may have experienced in your performances and take lots of risks with your characters. Make this semester your best yet! If you are new to the program, give yourself the opportunity to go for it and soak in as much new information as you can. Congratulations for taking this step.

If you have not auditioned for the Toronto Film School General Auditions, we urge you to contact Term 6 acting student Lindsay Sutherland Boal. Lindsay has created this platform so that every acting student has an opportunity to be seen by directors in all programs. Lindsay is also responsible for casting her own Term 6 film as well as for a nationwide talent show. The General Auditions will either be held on the weekend of Feb. 7 or Feb. 15. She is only accepting submissions at [email protected]

With the addition of the video games programs to Toronto Film School, Michael Ayoub and Julia Paton will be overseeing auditioning students for video game voiceovers to be produced at the Steeles Campus. Look for further ongoing integration with the fashion and interior decorating programs as well.

We are thrilled with the level of talent and commitment that we are seeing within our student body. All three Term 5 plays were astonishing and the Term 6 films continue to show the versatility and strength of our graduates.

Sue Miner is back at the helm for the Term 5 play after directing the critically acclaimed James and the Giant Peach at Young People’s Theatre. Sue and Term 5 students will be working on the Tony Award winning play Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman. The shows will run the weekend of March 20 at a location to be determined.

We’d also like to congratulate our three Term 6 graduating classes who will be starting production on their short films. Under the guidance of Yale Massey, Omar Zamir, Tony Del Rio and James Bond, the directors will be on location for the first half of the semester. Make sure to inquire with the directors as to whether they are holding auditions for acting program students or feel free to participate as extras for those who need them.

Our ever-popular acting showcases will be held the week of March 16th to March 21th. Attendance to the Term 5 play and the Term 6 Short Film Screening are mandatory. Please ensure that you are all available for the duration of showcase week and stay tuned for specific times.

Finally we want to extend our love to our fearless leader, Michael Ayoub who lost his wife Jennifer on New Year’s Day. Our prayers and thoughts are with Michael during this difficult time.

Have a great and exciting term and we encourage you to strive towards bettering yourselves in every possible way. We are honoured to continue the journey with you.
