Alumni Spotlight | Film Production Grad Cesar Karraa Takes on Editing Role at WeFX

Cesar Karraa

Cesar Karraa, who graduated from the Film Production program in 2018, was recently hired by WeFX – “home to a collective of visionaries working across film and television.”

As a Junior Editor, Karraa is part of WeFX’s editorial department, where he’s learned more of the important technical aspects of filmmaking and post-production – including the importance of colour space, aspect ratio, and pixel data, among other skills.

“We are an essential part of the VFX process, since we are the bridge between the material that the clients provide and our company,” he said of his role at WeFX, whose globally acclaimed artist pool have worked on films and TV series including Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, The Expanse and What We Do in the Shadows, just to name a few.

“I make sure that the shots are in the correct format, colour space, resolution and basically handle the back-and-forth of essential information that producers and artists within the company need for us to deliver what the client needs.”

Originally from El Salvador, Karraa credits his studies at Toronto Film School for not only helping him discover his love of filmmaking, but also for helping him make the necessary industry connections to realize his potential as a filmmaker. During his time at TFS, he worked on several of his fellow classmates’ short films, including Romanesh Reynoso’s He is Mime, for which he won the award for Best Production Design at the TFS Film Festival.

Since graduating from TFS, Karraa has worked on a number of other projects in a variety of roles, including:

Karraa is currently putting the finishing touches on his first short film – a five-minute stop-animation called Free Vision – which he plans to submit to various film festivals in the near future.
