BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Congratulations on your decision to study at Toronto Film School and welcome to our international community!

Our International Students Services team is dedicated to supporting you throughout the enrolment process and your relocation to Canada, from getting your visa to housing, socializing, and daily living. Here are a few helpful guidelines.

Your Pre-Arrival To-Do List


  • Review your Confirmation Letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and your study permit to make sure that your name is spelled correctly and that all dates and information are correct.
  • Book your airline ticket only after you have received your CIC confirmation letter and study permit.
  • Make photocopies of important documents and keep them in a safe place and/ or on you while travelling (not in your luggage).
  • Bring a copy of your medical records (including immunizations and exams) and any prescriptions (preferably in English), especially if you suffer from a chronic medical condition.

In addition to your study permit, make sure that you have the following documents to bring with you into Canada:


  • Original Toronto Film School Letter of Acceptance
  • Valid passport and/or official government-issued identification
  • Letter of introduction from the Canadian embassy, consulate, or immigration office
  • Temporary Resident Visa (if required)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (such as a bank statement)
  • Credit card(s)
  • Marriage certificate (if you are married)
  • Identification document with photo
  • Driver’s license or international driver’s license, driving insurance records, vehicle registration, and insurance papers (if you plan to drive)
  • Medical and immunization records.
  • Medical insurance documents (if you plan to use medical insurance from your home country)
  • Original secondary and/ or post-secondary transcripts and certificates

At Customs, be ready to present your passport, study permit, Letter of Confirmation from CIC, and Toronto Film School’s Letter of Acceptance.
